Privacy Policy

• We do not require you to create an account.
• We do not sell your personal data.
• When you scan a label, text extracted from the image is sent to our servers for AI analysis.
• We do not intentionally collect your name, email, or phone number through the app.

When you use Food Scanner, the following data may be processed:

• Camera and gallery images — if you scan or choose a photo of a product label. Text recognition (OCR) runs on your device to extract readable text from the image.
• Extracted label text — the text recognized from the label (for example, ingredient lists and related packaging text) is sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to our backend service hosted on Google Cloud Run for analysis.
• Analysis results — health scores, summaries, and ingredient insights generated by our AI service are returned to your device and displayed in the app.

We use the data described above solely to:

• Extract text from product labels you choose to scan
• Analyze ingredients and provide health-related insights within the app
• Operate, maintain, and improve app reliability and performance

Optical character recognition (OCR) is performed on your device using Google ML Kit. The full photo is not uploaded to our servers — only the text extracted from it is sent for analysis.

We use the following service providers to operate the app:

• Google Cloud Run — hosts our backend API that receives extracted label text
• Microsoft Azure OpenAI — processes the extracted text to generate ingredient analysis
• Google ML Kit — on-device text recognition

These providers process data on our behalf and only as needed to deliver the app's functionality. We require that data is transmitted securely (HTTPS/TLS).

• Analysis results are shown in the app on your device and are not stored in a user account by us.
• We do not maintain a database of your scans tied to your identity.
• Our cloud infrastructure may temporarily process requests in server logs for operational and security purposes; such logs are retained only as long as reasonably necessary and are not used for advertising.

The app may request the following device permissions:

• Camera — to photograph product labels
• Photo library / storage — to select an existing label photo
• Internet — to send extracted text for analysis and receive results

Food Scanner is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

• You can stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it.
• You can deny camera or photo permissions; however, scanning features will not work without them.
• Without an internet connection, AI analysis cannot be performed.

We use industry-standard measures including HTTPS encryption for data in transit. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect information processed through our services.

If you use Food Scanner from outside the country where our servers are located, your information may be transferred to and processed in those locations, including the United States, where our cloud providers operate.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
